Sainte Catherine dialysis centre

The different types of dialysis

There are two ways of supporting kidney disease:

  • Dialysis (haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis)
  • Kidney transplantation.

They complement each other and may be carried out one after the other. In most cases, dialysis treatment will be proposed. In France, haemodialysis is the technique most frequently used.

Two ministerial circulars published in the Journal Officiel in September 2002 and applicable in 2005 provide for five types of dialysis facility.

Hemodialysis Center

Our establishment is located near a public or private healthcare structure allowing hospitalization in case of necessity.

So-called assisted self-dialysis unit

It is intended for patients trained in hemodialysis who are partially autonomous, but who can request the help of a nurse.

The unit provides each patient with a visit to a nephrologist, during the session at least once a week. Other nephrology consultations are possible depending on the patient’s medical need.
